In a sensational incident, badly mutilated body of an eightyearold girl was found in the open space near home minister Uma Shankar Gupta’s official residence on Monday afternoon.
The head was badly crushed and the victim's feet had been taken away by stray dogs. Police said it was definitely a case of murder but whether the girl was raped before being killed would only be known after the post mortem.
The girl had gone missing on Sunday evening and when she did not return home at night, her father approached the TT Nagar police station. He had informed the police that his daughter who had gone to Dussehra Maidan was missing for several hours.
According to police, they had been searching for the girl ever since but did not find her until people informed them about the dead body of a girl lying on the barren land near 45 Bungalows.
The victim’s mother Sapna Dhuria said, "I recognised the body, I know she is my daughter because the body had the same clothes that my daughter was wearing yesterday evening. I was not able to recognise her face as it had been badly crushed. I don't suspect anyone. I don't know how it happened. Her father is still out looking for her."
Talking to HT, superintendent of police Anshuman Singh said, "We have found the body. It's highly mutilated. Besides, stray dogs have also eaten parts of the body."
On the possibility of rape, he said, "We cannot say yet whether it is a rape case or not but of course it is a murder. We have sent the body of the girl for post mortem and rest of the things will be known after postmortem and other investigations. The victim's feet were not found as it appeared that dogs have taken them away."
