Amid grief and anger, people of his native place and beyond bid a final farewell to lance naik Sudhakar Singh with state honours at his village Dadia in Sidhi district, more than 600 km northeast of Bhopal.

Singh, who belonged to the 13th battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, was killed in a Pakistani army ambush across the LoC near the Mendhar sector of Jammu on Tuesday. “In our wildest dreams we had not thought that Sudhakar — who was to visit home next month — would be brought here in a casket,” Singh’s elder brother Satyendra said. Meanwhile, UP chief minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav announced a compensation of R20 lakh to the family of Lance Naik Hemraj Singh, the other soldier killed in the Tuesday firing.   HTC
