A 14-year-old ragpicker was allegedly assaulted by two Delhi Police constables after they lured her to a flat. The incident comes close on the heels of a Delhi Police Station House Officer (SHO) being suspended for allegedly molesting a teenager in west Delhi.
The accused personnel, identified as constables Amit Tomar and Gurjinder Singh, do not have a clean service record. They have been suspended and an enquiry has been initiated.
According to the police, Tomar intercepted the teen with two friends near the Vikaspuri Police Lines area around 9pm on Saturday evening. He then lured her to Singh's Kingsway Camp flat, promising them 'junk which could prove profitable'. There, the duo attempted to sexually assault the teen.
"Tomar threatened to put them in jail and after having scared them sufficiently, lured them to the flat rented in Singh's name," said a senior police officer.
The victim was told to go inside the room where Singh was already present, while her friends were asked to wait outside. Once inside, both Tomar and Singh tried to force themselves on her. Her cries reached her friends who also started screaming for help, prompting a neighbour to call the police.
"The PCR rescued the girl and her friends. The victim was examined at the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital which led to the registration of a case," said N Gnana Sambandan, deputy commissioner of police (northwest).
Tomar is already involved in a case of criminal negligence while Singh is currently embroiled in proceedings related to a murder case.
"A Special Investigation Team under the supervision of Pramod Kushwaha, additional DCP (south district), has been constituted for 'an impartial enquiry'. We will ensure that the case is chargesheeted within a week," Sambandan added.
