Gujarat Congress MP Vithal Radadia, who had hit the headlines in October for brandishing a gun at a toll plaza staff near Vadodara, has resigned his parliament seat to continue as an MLA.

Radadia, the MP from Porbander, had been elected MLA for the sixth time from Dhoraji in Rajkot district in the recently held assembly polls.

He is a front-runner for the post of the leader of the opposition, for which he has staked claim on the basis of his seniority. The decision regarding the post will be taken within a few days.

"He wants to focus on state politics because he is also very active in the cooperative sector and is the chairman of Rajkot district cooperative bank," said a senior Congress leader.

Radadia was elected as an MP in the last Lok Sabha elections.

Another MP, Somabhai Patel, who was also elected as MLA from Limbadi constituency in Saurashtra, has resigned as MLA to continue as MP.
