Commuters, cyclists and pedestrians on the Old Delhi and MG Road can look forward to some relief by the end of the year as the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is all set to create dedicated cycle (two-wheeler) tracks.

The detailed project report has been prepared and work is likely to take off within a month.

HT has been campaigning for the cause of promoting non-motorised transport (NMT) in Gurgaon, a city that has six expressways with no cycle track or lanes for pedestrians.

“A cycle or two-wheeler track is going to be the new feature of all MCG road designs,” said BS Singroha, chief engineer, MCG.

The civic body is giving final touches to the detailed project report, prepared by a private company, before sending it to the head office in Chandigarh in a day or two.

“Once the report is approved by the Haryana government and sent back to us, the corporation will float a tender and invite bids,” added Singroha.

The total cost of the project is roughly Rs. 76 crore ( Rs. 55 crore for the Old Delhi road and Rs. 21 crore for MG Road) and the completion time is nine months from the date of allotment.

The Old Delhi Road from Kapashera border to Mahavir Chowk, a stretch of 7.5 km with 60-metre width, is in dire need of repairs. Cyclists and pedestrians risk their lives while negotiating traffic during peak hours.
