The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), which has been facing staff crunch for the past several years, may have failed to get some big-ticket assignments due to shortage of experts.

According to officials, the Haryana government is considering roping in the Public Works Department (PWD) to execute the construction of a Rs. 100-crore flyover at MDI Chowk.

The project which includes the construction of an underpass and an elevated corridor along the existing Mehrauli Road was proposed by the civic body in order to ease traffic congestion in Old Gurgaon area.

MCG commissioner Ashok Sangwan is soon to hold a meeting with PWD officials to discuss the MDI Chowk flyover project, said a senior MCG official on condition of anonymity.

A detailed project report (DPR) regarding the MDI Chowk flyover was pending with the Haryana government for quite a long time.

“Haryana government’s apprehension is that lack of expertise in the MCG can affect the big-ticket project,” the official said.

The MCG has recently roped in architects to prepare a plan to ease the traffic movement at Signature Tower intersection and Sohna Road.

Earlier, the corporation’s proposal for a Rs. 250-crore flyover project at Mahavir Chowk was rejected by the construction consultant RITES.

Hundreds of posts, including those of engineers, have been lying vacant in the MCG, leading to pile-up of various files.
