A four-acre land earmarked for a mutli-level parking has been lying unused even though the foundation stone for the facility was laid eight years ago.

In 2004, the then Haryana chief minister, Om Prakash Chautala, had laid the foundation stone for setting up of a 4,000-car capacity parking lot in Udyog Vihar Phase-5. But soon, the plan was shelved by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), saying the proposed facility was not the "best use" of the land.

Once a site is marked under the category of "best use plan", it needs to be assessed by experts who suggest plans which could be of optimum benefit. Since September last year, the HSIIDC is believed to have been mulling over a plan to convert the allocated site into a temporary parking lot with the capacity to accommodate 1,000 cars. But nothing has changed on the ground.

“The permission for temporary parking is stuck with the head office, Panchkula” an HSIIDC official said.
