A scene in a recently released Telugu movie "Rebel," inspired a teenager in Andhra Pradesh Nellore district to cut a taxi driver's throat on Saturday, according to police.
The boy (12), whose name police is withholding, comes from a broken family and is a student of sixth standard in a school in his native village Chintavaram.
Police said on Saturday he did not get down from the school bus near his home but went to nearest town Guduru. Straight he went to the taxi stand near the old bus stand and hired an Innova car, telling the driver-owner that his mother required a car. He checked into the front seat next to the driver and told him that he would guide him to their house.
When the car had barely gone few kilometres, the boy suddenly pulled out a blade and cut the throat of driver Md Karimulla.
The bleeding driver stopped the car and shouted for help as the boy fled. Alerted by the driver`s shouts, some local youths chased the boy and caught him. They handed him over to the police.
The boy reportedly told the police that he had no enmity with the driver. He just did it after seeing a similar sequence in actor Prabhas-starred movie “Rebel” the previous night. He reportedly told the police that he felt that the action in the movie was cool.
Saidapuram inspector of police Hema Reddy said that the driver was being treated in a local hospital and was out of danger.
The boy was booked under Section 324 and sent to a juvenile home after being produced before a magistrate, he said.
