Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has directed her top police bosses to take charge and oversee the funeral arrangements of Tapas Choudhury.
The funeral would be conducted on Friday, three days after he was shot dead near a Garden Reach College. The announcement came on the day the chief minister paid a visit to the SI’s Thakurpukur address.
“The chief minister said she knew my husband personally and that the police would make all arrangements for my husband’s funeral,” Minati Choudhury, the slain cop’s widow told HT on Thursday.
Shortly after the chief minister’s visit, senior police officers reportedly spoke to the bereaved kin over the funeral arrangements. The police have since decided to make provision of eatables for around 500 guests.
However, considering the likely space constraint should the count of visitors at the funeral scale up to 500, the city police bosses have decided against making seating arrangements for visitors.Food packets would be handed out.Family members reportedly want the menu to be simple and light, preferably luchi, curry and sweets.
Police officers said a catering agency has already been roped in to arrange for the eatables on the day.
