Police sources said on conditions of anonymity that after initial hiccups, Hridaypur Bengal Chemical resident Mondal cooperated with police, mock-staging the whole sequence of events leading to the burglary.

“Mondal showed us how they scaled the boundary wall of the farmhouse, entered the rooms one by one, woke up members of the family, in addition to details on which of the gang members possessed guns and choppers and which of them trained arms on the family members,” said the police officer.

But he refused to divulge further information for the sake of investigation.

In the dead of the night on Thursday, six burglars raided Das’s eight-bigha farmhouse at Madhyamgram’s Chandigarh, adjacent to Madhyamgram railway station and looted more than Rs. 20,000 and gold jewellery worth 100 grams.

The burglars reportedly woke up Das first, with two of them pointing a gun and chopper at him. Hearing the commotion, his wife, son and two daughters rushed to his room only to be cornered by the burglars.

“Mondal told us which of the burglars pointed a gun and chopper at Das and then which of them turned to members of the Das family. She also told us how they went about looting the house in detail. We are still verifying her claims though,” said the police officer.

Mondal was caught when she failed to jump over the boundary walls of the farmhouse while escaping. She was found in one of the temple rooms inside the farmhouse premises. Mondal married one of the gang members Prakash Mondal on the very night of the burglary and at the very temple.

After interrogating the newlywed dacoit, police arrested another gang member Tarak Mondal on Friday night.
