Million Dollar Arm! Well, that’s the latest film being shot in Lucknow, to bring a bit of Awadhi flavour to from famous Hollywood director Craig Gillespie latest venture.
Believe it or not, this will be Hollywood’s second filmy tryst with UP’s capital after 63 years. The first one was Kim (1950), shot at La Martiniere College.
Craig’s crew began shooting right from the moment they landed at Chaudhury Charan Singh (Amausi) Airport on Tuesday after the Mumbai session. Another shooting spot is the sprawling Lucknow University campus, which has charged Craig Rs. 60,000 for the two-day shoot.
University proctor Pawan Agarwal confirmed this while speaking to Hindustan Times and said, “Permission has been granted and shooting will take place at the arts quadrangle.”
Million Dollar Arm features Hollywood actor John Hamm and Life of Pi star Suraj Sharma. It is based on true stories of India-born US baseball pitchers Rinku Singh (played by Suraj) and Dinesh Patel who were athletes at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College in Lucknow and hailed from Bhadohi and Varanasi respectively. Hamm plays US sports agent JB Bernstein who discovers the two players.
