When select bureaucrats called on chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday to seek time for holding the senior administrative officers’ conference, which traditionally precedes the IAS service week, they were in for a pleasant surprise.
Yadav not only gave his nod for the service week (to be held from January 11 to 13), after a gap of six years, but also suggested a match between the CM’s XI and the IAS XI to mark the occasion. It’s still not clear if it would be a cricket match or a football or hockey match because what sports would be played out between the IAS and Team Akhilesh. But irrespective of the nature of sporting activity that would take place then, it would perhaps be for the first time any CM has taken such an initiative, which appeared well timed given the six-year-long wait for the bureaucrats before they got their service week. The bureaucrats would also use the occasion to find out the reasons for the ‘image dip’ that has taken place in the last couple of years. The newly elected IAS association chief Alok Ranjan has told HT that all the problems involving the bureaucrats would be discussed at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the association that would also be held as part of the service week.
