He also did his degree in pharmacy from Lucknow’s Integral University.

“He had failed in the second year and so could complete his course in four years,” said a police officer associated with UP Anti-Terror Squad (ATS).

He joined the group apparently during his Lucknow stay and had fled the country when Delhi police announced Rs. 1 lakh reward on him in October 2008 after the Batla House encounter.

The official said Asadullah had apparently learnt the technique of assembly timer devices during his stay in Lucknow.

“He was an expert in assembly timers and had played a key role in assembling timer devices used in a series of five synchronised bomb blasts that took place within a span of few minutes in Delhi on September 13, 2008,” claimed the official while insisting that he along with seven others were also allegedly involved in planting the timer devices in Greater Kailash and Connaught Place.

Besides, he also allegedly assembled timers devices used in Jaipur blast on May 13, 2008 and 16 serial bomb blasts that took place in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008, he added.

The official said Asadullah’s name cropped up as the key suspect in Delhi serial blasts after another alleged IM operative Mohd Saif was arrested in Balta House encounter on September 19, 2008. He said the he went under ground and later fled the country.

He claimed Asadullah also lured many youths into the terror group. It was he who lured Mohd Hakim, who was arrested by the ATS in Lucknow in January 2009, into the terror plot.

He said one of the Delhi blast co-accused Sarwar, who was arrested from Lucknow’s Vikasnagar, also had association with Asadullah.

“He stayed in different locations in the state capital and worked with another alleged IM operative Dr Shahnawaz, a BUMS doctor and elder brother of Balta House case accused Mohd Saif,” said an officer.
