Putting speculation of Amar Singh’s ‘homecoming’ to rest, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has said it would not touch the expelled leader with a barge pole.

Sending out a strong message, the party said in case Singh was under any illusion, he should get rid of it.

The speculation was fuelled by recent conciliatory measures taken by the SP towards Singh, including withdrawal of money-laundering cases against him.

“The party does not want to even look at him. There is a conspiracy on the part of some people to project that the SP was in need of Amar Singh,” said SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary on Sunday.

Chaudhary said some adversaries, anxious over the SP’s good prospects in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, were engaging in misinformation ploys.

Chaudhary further said: “It is extremely misleading and baseless to say that Amar Singh would return to the SP. He has been disloyal to the party and misled it into taking decisions that hurt the SP and served his own interests. The party suffered losses and disgrace due to him. We would not give him a second chance to do all that over again.”

“The SP is a party firm on its principles and policies, while Amar Singh does not have any. He is selfish and self-centered. He was expelled because of his anti-party activities and post- expulsion he tried to paint the party in bad light,” said Chaudhary.

“People anyway do not have any faith in him,” he added.

The one-time close confidant of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav, Singh wa s expelled in February 2010 along with Rampur MP Jaya Prada.
