Senior BJP leaders led by party’s UP in-charge Amit Shah held prayer meetings to mourn the loss of Uttarakhand victims and then fired a salvo at the Uttar Pradesh government by accusing it of not doing enough for people from the state who are still missing in the hill state.

Shah led the prayer meetings in Noida, senior leader Kalraj Mishra in Ghaziabad and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in Rampur.

The party claimed that unless a balance was struck between development and environment, natural calamities like the one witnessed in Uttarakhand would continue. >

“You need to build safe routes for all religious shrines in the hills and beyond,” said Shah after the prayer meet. However, the BJP later launched a scathing attack on the UP government saying that the fate of 2098 people from UP, reportedly trapped in the hill state was still not known.

“It’s the government’s job to find out if they were safe and to aid relief and rescue efforts for the people of the state. But this government appears least bothered,” said BJP leader Mukut Bihari Verma.
