Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar was sworn in as the dep-uty chief minister of Maharas-htra on Friday at Raj Bhavan, two months after he had quit the post in the wake of an irrigation scam.

Back after receiving a clean chit in the state’s white paper for irrigation, which critics termed an eyewash, Pawar said he felt it was the right time to come back.

“We have published a detailed white paper that has proven that irrigation potential has increased. We have given reasons for cost escalation for every project. There is no susbstance in the allegations made by the Opposition,” said Pawar.

When questioned about a PIL filed before the Nagpur bench of HC, Pawar said: “There are many PILs filed against almost everyone. If we wait for the judgement in these PILs, then I don’t think any minister, CM or PM will be able to work.”
