Posing as an electrician, an unknown person, entered the high security Navy Nagar area in south Mumbai and robbed an Army sergeant’s wife of valuables worth Rs.15,6000.

According to the police, the accused told Anita Jadhav that he’d come to check on an electrical connection after she opened the door around 10am on Friday.

“After he was sure that she was alone in the house, he pulled out a metal object and hit her head. The accused then took Anita’s ring, bangles and her mobile phone,” said Janardan Kharat, senior inspector of Cuffe Parade police station.

The police said that the accused locked the woman in her house before escaping. They added that the accused was wearing a turban and his back was seen by one of the residents while escaping.

The police are scanning the CCTV camera footage to ascertain the identity of the accused who is said to be in his 30s.

The incident took place at C-121 building located at Suvidha Complex in Navy Nagar area.

Preliminary probe states that the accused is likely to be someone from inside the Navy Nagar premises since everybody has been allotted an identity card for entry. The investigators stated that there is a least possibility of a security breach.

The Naval police offered no comments but  the Cuffe Parade police have registered a case of robbery against the unidentified accused.

The victim is the wife of Army sergeant Abhijeet Jadhav.
