Civic chief Sitaram Kunte will present the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) budget on Monday.

Although the BMC is not expected to raise taxes or impose new ones, the civic budget will be crucial in deciding how much water you will get, the state of the roads this year and the number of open spaces you have access to, among other things

Sources said Kunte plans to address issues that make it difficult for the BMC to provide citizens quality civic amenities.

Activists, however, said there are some key issues that the budget must address. "Our research shows that people mostly complain about poor drainage system and roads, apart from inadequate water supply. There is a need to revisit the complaint handling system, where reports on action taken need to be generated on time," said Milind Mhaske, project director, Praja Foundation.

HT had earlier reported that the average Mumbaiite may not be burdened by the civic budget this year. While it will focus on basic amenities, it is unlikely that there will be any announcements of big-ticket projects.
