Hoping to provide fitness workout stations to citizens free of cost, actor Dino Morea presented a proposal to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday to set up fitness stations at select open spaces in the city that Mumbaiites could use for free.
The proposal, that was presented to mayor Sunil Prabhu and municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte on Wednesday, stated that DM Fitness Pvt Ltd, which is owned by Morea, would establish these fitness stations at locations commonly used for daily workouts by citizens. Some of these locations include Marine Drive, Bandra Reclamation, Carter Road in Bandra, and Worli Sea Face. For instance, permission for approximately 35 such fitness stations has been sought for Marine Drive. The firm has also proposed to incur cost of maintenance of these fitness stations.
“Dino Morea and his firm made a presentation to us and we feel it is a good idea. A similar fitness station is currently being run at Worli Chowpatty by another organisation. Officials will visit it to study the feasibility of setting up more centres at other locations,” Prabhu said.
Civic officials, however, expressed concern over the risk of theft if such equipment is set up in open spaces.
