The first exam, Marathi was held on Thursday. On Friday, students appeared for Hindi and  other language papers.

The official submission of their refusal to assess the papers comes after the agitating junior college teachers' union resumed their boycott this week. The  unions, which has been making various demands since last December regarding salary arrears and post sanctions, said they have yet not received any written assurances from the government on their demands.

"On Friday, the Hindi moderators will notify the board of their strike," said Amar Singh, president of the Mumbai Junior College Teachers' Union. "Examiners have also been informing their college principals that they will not correct papers. Results will definitely be delayed at this rate."

Officials from the state board's Mumbai division confirmed that they had received a letter of protest from moderators, but that it was an issue for the state to deal with.
