The Cuffe Parade police arrested a 42-year-old man on Thursday for repeatedly raping his 17-year-old daughter for the past five years.

The police would produce the accused in a local court on Friday.

According to the police, the accused, a driver by profession, would allegedly rape the girl in their Prabhadevi hutment.

However, a month ago, he shifted her to a house at Ganesh Murti Nagar in Cuffe Parade and continued to sexually abuse her.

The incident came to the light after the minor, a Class 7 dropout, confided in one of her friends on Wednesday.

“A case was registered at the Cuffe Parade police station on Thursday after the victim and her friend lodged a complaint. We have arrested the accused and are interrogating him,” said Dr Ravindra Shisve, deputy commissioner of police, zone 1.

The police registered a rape case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. “We are also adding relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012,” said Janardhan Kharat, senior inspector, Cuffe Parade police station.
