Sources said that during the meeting, which went on for more than an hour, the Navi Mumbai police officials handed over case papers and discussed the various angles they were probing into. The case was recently transferred to the crime branch.

Singh, the sister of former yesteryear actors Vijeta and Sulakshana Pandit and musicians Jatin-Lalit, went missing on December 13. The murder came into the spotlight after skeletal remains were spotted by a British birdwatcher at Nerul in the last week of January. A forensic report received by the Navi Mumbai police yesterday confirmed that the remains were those of Sandhya’s.

Later in the day, top crime branch officials Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police (crime), Niket Kaushik, additional commissioner of police (crime), ACP Praful Bhosale, and three inspectors in-charge of various units discussed strategies.

Sources said that crime branch on Friday also visited the spot in Nerul where the remains were found. The police are first trying to first find out how Singh was killed, sources said. Sources  added the crime branch was looking into the money angle as a possible murder motive as Sandhya had taken jewellery worth Rs20 lakh to deposit in a bank on the day she went missing.

Meanwhile, Sandhya’s husband Jaiprakash Singh on Friday said that he would not claim the remains till he gets some answers.  “The police are yet to tell us where the rest of her remains are – just a handful of bones were found at the spot. We also want to know when she was murdered and how her body was disposed of,” Jaiprakash said.
