The police are yet to ascertain what led 29-year-old scientist from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to commit suicide on Thursday.
Amit Kumar Gyanprakash, a class D employee with the BARC for the past three years, was found hanging from the water pipe of Amaya apartments in Chembur, where he was lived on rent along with his two colleagues. “We spoke to his colleagues, flat owner and brother. However, there seems to be no concrete reason behind his extreme step. He hasn’t left a suicide note,” said V Tarde, sub-inspector, Govandi police station.
The police said Amit, who hailed from Bihar, had been staying in the flat since 2009. “Hours before Amit committed suicide, he had dinner with his flatmates. They said he did not seem upset. After they went to sleep, Amit went to the terrace and hung himself from a nylon rope,” he Tarde.
The incident came to light when a resident of the building went to the terrace. Amit was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The police have registered a case of accidental death.
