‘The festival should not be commercialised any further’

Kemps Corner resident Bijal Mehta has been attending the Kala Ghoda festival in the city ever since its inception 15 years ago.

“I love visiting this festival because it is vibrant and not only reflects the art and culture of India, but also teaches us so much about our tradition,” said Mehta, who attended the festival on Sunday.

For most visitors, the south Mumbai festival is a great platform to witness the country’s art and culture. The second day of the festival witnessed a footfall of around 15,000 people.

“The festival is getting better every year, with more people coming to participate in the various workshops and witness the art installations and stalls put up,” said Rosalind Pereira who has put up a stall that sells junk jewellery.

The festival saw a few commercial stalls too, but regular visitors wanted the festival to continue representing different art forms. “The art work keeps us rooted to the tradition and it certainly shouldn’t be commercialised any further,” said Melania Netto, a Mahim resident who been visiting the festival for the past three years.

Several visitors, attending the festival for the first time, were taken in by the creative art installations and stalls set up. “This is the first time we have attended such an event in the city, and we are amazed by the brilliant art work on display,” said 35-year-old Shalini Shah from Indore, who is on a holiday in the city.
