An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death in east Delhi’s Shakarpur on Wednesday night for stopping two youths from harassing his sister.

Neeraj Rai’s younger sister was manning their family shop in the evening when two boys, one of them was a juvenile, started teasing her. The boys left after some time. The girl complained about it to her family members later.

“The girl gave the description of the boys and Rai later brought them to the shop. He and his father then humiliated and even slapped them. The boys left after threatening them but no police complaint was lodged,” a senior police officer said.

Later in the night, Rai left home to get drinking water along with his mother. A few metres away, accused Bhola and a juvenile were waiting for him and attacked him as soon as they saw him.

“They stabbed him several times. Rai’s mother raised alarm and some local residents rushed to help. They managed to catch one of the accused,” the officer added.  Rai was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police managed to apprehend the second juvenile accused and both the accused were booked for murder.
