The Youth Congress elections in Bihar have run into rough weather after the results were withheld in view of allegations of irregularities against the contestants.

The Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections (FAME) — an independent agency engaged by Rahul Gandhi to ensure free and fair organisational elections in the Youth Congress —  has withheld the results and launched a thorough probe into allegations.

Unofficially, sources said Sanjeev Singh alias Engineer Sanjeev had won the polls, defeating his nearest rival Kumar Ashish by more than 1500 votes.

Rahul had initiated the democratisation and decentralisation process in the Youth Congress after taking over as party general secretary in 2007.

But Congress leaders claim that young leaders with political patronage and lineage were the greatest beneficiaries of the new system. “There are bitter fights between political families to gain the control of the organisation.,” a senior leader said.
In the previous Youth Congress polls, former RJD MP Pappu Yadav, had allegedly played a crucial role in the victory of his protégé Lallan Kumar Yadav who has since move away from his camp.
