A number of colonies located on or near forest land or the ridge area or in the vicinity of centrally protected monuments in south Delhi may soon get a legal tag.

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has asked the departments to expedite work in these colonies, which come under the Mehrauli Assembly segment.

A meeting was held on Thursday to take stock of the situation and officials from the revenue department were present at the meeting.

Dikshit assured a delegation from these colonies that a nod for regularisation of the colonies would be given soon in a couple of week’s time.

“The delegation comprised office bearers of resident welfare associations (RWAs) of those colonies that have come up in the Mehrauli Assembly segment,” said a senior Delhi government official.

Some of these colonies waiting to get regularised are: Bhavani Kunj, Shanti Kunj, Freedom Fighter Colony, Lado Sarai, Masood Pur and Kishan Garh.

Yoganand Shastri, who is the Member of Legislative Assembly for  the constituency, has requested the revenue department to further streamline the process of regularization of colonies, as the remaining unauthorized colonies are waiting for developmental work to start soon.

“The issue of colonies with ASI/forest/ridge parts has been resolved but certain verification still needs to be completed,” added the official.
