A constable deployed at a police picket in Anand Vihar area of east Delhi was injured when a speeding Esteem car rammed him at the barricade where he was standing on Sunday.
Police said the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and injured the constable in a bid to escape. The injured constable, Adhvani, is posted at the Anand Vihar police station.
A case was registered against the errant car driver, identified as Yogesh Sharma, who was chased and nabbed while he was trying to flee after committing the crime. Sharma was booked for assaulting a public servant in discharge of his duties and other sections of the IPC and 185 Motor Vehicles Act.
The case was registered on the basis of the statement of head constable Rajveer Singh, also posted at the Anand Vihar police station, as he was present at the spot.
In his statement to the police, Singh said, "I was on picket duty in Anand Vihar area between 8 pm and 5 am. Around 10.40 pm, a speeding Esteem car coming from Seemapuri, was flagged down by constable Adhvani who was manning the picket while constable Nanak and I were standing some distance away from the barricade".
"The car slowed down but the driver suddenly sped and in a bid to escape and rammed the car into the barricade which fell on constable Adhvani," Singh said in his statement.
