Delhi: Head constable fires after being attacked with knives, one injured

A Delhi Police head constable and his subordinate suffered injuries on Saturday night after being attacked by a group of people with knives in west Delhi’s Ranhola on Saturday night.


One of the attackers also suffered bullet injuries during the attack after the policemen retaliated and one of them apparently opened fire and shot him in the leg with his service revolver.The injured policemen have been identified as head constable Balram and constable Surajbhan, both posted at the Ranhola police station. The injured attacker has been identified as one Rahul, 27, a resident of Vikas Nagar near Ranhola.

A police officer said the two policemen had gone to attend a PCR call about a clash between two groups in Vikas Nagar area. When they reached the area, one of the groups that had arrived to attack a member of the rival group started fleeing.The policemen chased them.

During the chase, the miscreants left their motorcycle. The police traced the owner of the bike.

“The house of the bike owner was raided. Two brothers, Rahul and Mohit, 21, were overpowered by the two policemen. While they were being taken to the police station, the associates of the brothers attacked the police with knives due to which they suffered wounds in their hands,” said the officer.

Despite suffering injuries, the two policemen fought back and did not lose their grip on the two brothers. When Rahul attempted to escape, Balram whipped out his service revolver, aimed at his leg and shot twice.
