Four fake CBI officers steal jewellery worth Rs. 15 lakh

Four persons, posing as Central Bureau of Investigation officers, duped the salesman of a jewellery shop and his colleague and made away with diamond jewellery worth around R15 lakh on Saturday night in the guise of a surprise raid.


The incident, police said, took place in central Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area when the victims were returning to their workplace after receiving a consignment of diamond jewellery worth around Rs. 40 lakh from a supplier in Karol Bagh.

A case of impersonation and cheating has been registered.

The case was registered on the complaint of the salesman, Pawan Kumar.

Kumar in his complaint told the police that on Saturday evening, his employer Karan Sharma had sent him to Karol Bagh with his colleague, Abhay, to meet a diamond supplier and collect some jewellery from him. “The two took the Metro to Karol Bagh where diamond supplier Surendra Soni gave them a bag containing nine packets of jewellery,” said the officer quoting Kumar’s complaint.Abhay and Pawan reached Chandni Chowk Metro station. They came out of the station and when a man asked them to stop.

“The man introduced himself as a CBI officer and said he wanted check the bag as a input has been received by the bureau that bombs were being supplied in Chandi Chowk area. In the meantime, three more men who also claimed to be CBI officers arrived at the scene. While one of them engaged Abhay in a discussion, others checked Abhay’s bag.

They later returned the bag duo to leave,” said the officer.He added that when the victims reached the shop they found that three out of nine packets of diamond were missing.
