Dept of posts to honour urdu poet
Thanks to the personal initiative of Dr KK Paul, senior member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and former Delhi Police Commissioner, the department of Posts has decided to finally honour the country's most accomplished Urdu poet, late Sahir Ludhianvi. President Pranab Mukherjee will be releasing a commemorative postal stamp and a first day cover on March 8 to pay homage to the poet whose lyrics in movies like Pyaasa, Dhool Ka Phool, Gumrah and Kabhie Kabhie have become immortal.
5 key secretaries of government retire
Apart from discussing the agenda, the Union cabinet meeting on Thursday also devoted time to discuss the retirement of key bureaucrats. Five secretaries of the government of India - Kiran Dhingra (textiles), PK Pradhan (health), Dhruv Vijay Singh (water resources), DK Mittal (banking) and GC Chaturvedi (petroleum) - retired on the same day that the cabinet met. Some ministers spoke on how their long bureaucratic innings had come to an end.
TMC minister's railways post at stake
Chandralekha Mukherjee of the railway ministry had shot to fame by bagging the executive director (information and publicity) post after Mamata Banerjee became the railway minister in 2009. But now, with Trinamool Congress out of the UPA, Mukherjee's run in that coveted post also came to an end. Despite a section of the ministry batting for her continuation as ED, Mukherjee was recently sent to one rail PSU.
New road secretary appointed
Vijay Chibber, a 1978 batch IAS of the Manipur-Tripura cadre has taken over as secretary, road transport and highways. He takes over from AK Upadhyay, a Bihar cadre officer who retired on January 31. Chibber is an old hand in the road ministry where he had handled the charge of additional secretary and financial advisor for over two years before getting posted to the department of ex-servicemen welfare, ministry of defence as secretary in September 2012.
