Man arrested for raping minor girl in chilla village

A 22-year-old tailor has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in east Delhi's Chilla Village near Mayur Vihar on Saturday.

Identified as Amjad Khan, he runs a shop in Chilla Village. Police said the 16-year-old victim knew Amjad and they had been friends for the past few months.

A police officer said the matter was brought to their after the victim and her parents approached the Mayur Vihar police and lodged a rape complaint against Amjad. In her statement, the victim alleged that Amjad had asked her to meet him on Saturday.

"The girl told us that she had gone to meet him at his shop where he raped her. She went home and narrated the entire incident to her parents who in turn approached us with a complaint. We have sent the victim to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where her medical examination has confirmed rape," said a senior police officer.

Accordingly, a case of rape was registered and Amjad was arrested, the police officer said.

During interrogation, the officer said, Ajmad refuted the allegations and pleaded innocence. But when confronted him with the girl's medical report and other evidence, he confessed his crime.

Amjad was produced before a magistrate that sent him to 14 days' judicial custody, the officer said.

The victim lives with her family some distance away from Amjad's shop in Chilla Village.
