Rajneesh, a resident of Samaipur Badli area, was travelling in a delivery van with a total of 1,056 quarters of Haryana Excise liquor and 700 quarters of a local brand meant for sale only in the state of Haryana, said SBS Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

“On February 14, we got information that Rajneesh, who is involved in the supply of illegal liquor in some areas of outer Delhi, would be transporting a consignment. Accordingly, a trap was laid and he was intercepted at Haiderpur Nahar,” said DCP Tyagi.

According to police, Rajneesh and one of his associates identified as Arjun had been engaged in purchasing liquor from various locations in Haryana before peddling it to local distributors in the area.

Rajneesh and Arjun had been arrested with 26 cartons of smuggled liquor on September 2 last year as well.

“During subsequent interrogation, Rajneesh disclosed that he has been supplying illegal liquor to Arjun, who is a resident of Libaspur slum cluster area, in his delivery van since last year,” DCP Tyagi said.

Police said Rajneesh also admitted that he used to purchase liquor from Haryana’s Panipat and pass the consignment to Arjun who would then peddle it to local residents on demand and at higher prices than the printed rate.
