Move to make city’s five-star hotels green

To make five-star hotels in Delhi environment-friendly by cutting the wastage of water and electricity, the environment department is calling on 35 such facilities to implement a green hotel policy.


The electricity consumed by a five-star hotel can power 600 homes. Similarly, the water consumed is enough for 1,000 homes.

Now, rain water harvesting and biological waste water treatment will be made mandatory. “Letting water go down the drain because the plants are

not big enough must stop,” an official said. “Treated water must be reused for cleaning, watering and fire-fighting...”

Delhi: HIV patient gets 7 years' jail for robbery

A Delhi court has sentenced an HIV-positive man and his wife to seven years in jail for robbery and house trespassing. The court said there were no grounds for leniency on account of health since such crimes were on the rise and needed to be curbed.
