Identified as Asif, 23, Mohammad Shahid, 24, Nooruddin, 51, Muzahir, 24, Mohammad Najir, 40, and Asaru, 22, the men belong to the Jahar Khurani gang and are believed to have been involved in two similar incidents, said Sindhu Pillai, deputy commissioner of police, north.

“On July 1, Muhammad Nabi, a citizen of Pakistan who was on a visit to the Capital after 40 years, had landed in Delhi from Karachi and was en route Muradabad to meet some of his relatives when he was intercepted by the gang at the interstate bus terminal in Kashmere Gate,” said DCP Pillai.
According to the police, Nabi, who was to board a bus to Uttar Pradesh from the Anand Vihar ISBT, was befriended by the gang near the Ritz Cinema and talked into taking a shared auto-rickshaw.

The auto-rickshaw, the police said, was being driven by one of the gang members.

“While they were on their way to Anand Vihar, they offered Nabi a soft drink laced with sedatives. He drank it and lost consciousness soon after. As soon as he passed out, the gang stole his belongings, including cash, and fled the scene after dumping him in Ghazipur,” Pillai said.

A police van patrolling the area spotted and rescued Nabi, rushing him to the LBS Hospital for medical attention. A case was registered.
