Unidentified thieves made away with a box containing around Rs. 61 lakh from a van belonging to a private cash collection company in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh on Wednesday afternoon.
The miscreants diverted the attention of the cash van security guard by throwing some currency notes on the road. When the security guard started collecting the currency notes, the thieves took out the cash box from the cash van and walked away.
By the time the two collection agents, who had gone to a nearby wine shop for collecting money, returned with Rs. 2.43 lakh in cash and found the box missing, the thieves had disappeared, said a police officer.
Police said the cash van belongs to ECS cash collection company that collects cash on behalf of Corporation Bank.
