The Delhi bus gang-rape victim has moved hearts even in the United States. On Monday, the US state department announced that it would confer on her posthumously the International Women of Courage Award on March 8, international women’s day.

The 23-year-old paramedic, who was raped in a moving bus on December 16 and died in a Singapore hospital 13 days later, is one of the 10 awardees.

“In spite of her horrific injuries, she fully cooperated with the authorities to bring those responsible to justice,” said a state department spokesperson.

The award will be presented by the first lady of the United States Michelle Obama and the secretary of state John Kerry.
