The BJP on Saturday said the proposed peace talks between the government and the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) was as another drama enacted by the Congress party in Assam with an eye on the forthcoming assembly elections.
“It is too well known that the Congress party has taken overt and covert support of ULFA elements to improve its electoral prospects in the past,”
BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said. “Under such circumstances, the buzz about peace talks ahead of the polls is not surprising.”
In a resolution, the BJP demanded that dialogue with the ULFA be held within the framework of the Constitution, on a sustained long-term basis and in a transp
arent manner. “Security in the Northeast needs to be seen not in mere policing terms but as a complex intersection of foreign affairs, military, internal and strategic security as also a meaningful resolution of economic issues,” Rudy said reading out the resolution.
Elaborating on the issue of ‘loot of public money by all and sundry’ with blatant political patronage, the BJP resolved to come out with a comprehensive booklet exposing graft in the Northeast such as the Rs.
1000 crore NC Hills (now Dima Hasao) Autonomous Council scam in Assam and the Loktak Lake scam in Manipur.
The booklet on these scams involving politicians, bureaucrats and militants will then be distributed to the people of the region.
“There must be special audit of all these scams (in the Northeast). The property of all these scammers including ministers involved as well as bureaucrats must be seized,” the BJP said, demanding prompt probe by agencies such as NIA and CBI and prosecution of the accused by a special fast track court.
Sharing its concerns on the various dam projects by China, the BJP urged New Delhi to undertake a proper impact assessment study keeping the interest of the region in mind. The party pointed out that its five-member panel on the issue had already assessed the situation by visiting the India-China border areas. The panel with disclose its report on Sunday.
