The Delhi police drew a blank when they raided a village in Aurangabad district of south central Bihar on Wednesday in search of New Delhi gang rape accused Akshay Thakur.
But on Wednesday itself, they met with success on their home turf when they nabbed two persons accused in another gang rape: that of a schoolgirl in Banka district of south-eastern Bihar, last Saturday.
The accused, Kausar and Gullo, were arrested by the Delhi police from a place under the Shalimar Bagh PS in the national capital, on the basis of a tip off from the Banka police.
The victim, a resident of Barphera village under Suya subsidiary PS of Banka district and a class 10 student of a local school, had named Kausar as one of the rapists. She was unable to identify three other perpetrators.
The Banka police believe Gullo is among these other three persons involved in the incident.
Bijendra Kumar Das, deputy superintendent of police (headquarters), Banka, on Wednesday, confirmed the arrest of Kausar and Gullo in the national capital Wednesday morning.
“The two had fled to Delhi after committing the crime (on December 15). Drawing upon the lead provided by the Banka police, the Delhi police have secured their arrest”, Das told HT.
Detailing the incident, the DSP said the victim was drugged by a female friend on the fateful day and taken to a secluded place at the nearby Bakhri village, where Kausar was waiting for her.
“Kausar forced her to take a drink to made her more drowsy. Thereafter, he and three others raped the girl. The unconscious girl was then dumped in a nearby bush. That’s where she was found later”, Das said.
The DSP said the medical examination of the girl had confirmed she had been raped. “She narrated the incident after she regained consciousness on Monday. A case has been lodged as the Suya subsidiary PS”, he added.
The police, he said, had already interrogated her female friend, adding that the victim’s father worked as a tailor in Delhi.
