The Bihar model of speedy trials, which led to 79,000 convictions during the past seven years, has been approved for emulation across the country.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the 43rd All India Police Science Congress 2013, hosted by the Bihar police and Bureau of Police Research and Development. The meet concluded on Friday.

The resolution drew upon the perception that the high rate of conviction in Bihar had served as a deterrent for criminals and thus improved the law and order situation.

Another Bihar police initiative that was found fit for replication was its move to facilitate confiscation of property of persons involved in organised crime and money laundering.

Speaking as the chief guest, SC judge Aftab Alam strongly advocated scientific investigation.
