Footballer found dead in Patna

A young inter-district football player, Rajesh Kumar, was found dead near Raj apartment situated on Ashiana-Digha road in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Police suspect the player was killed by criminals who dumped his body near the drain.

The victim was said to be a resident of veterinary college locality under Airport police station area. He had gone missing on Monday evening as per a complaint filed by his father, Raj Kishore Prasad.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amrit Raj said the victim had injury marks on his head which indicates he was hit by a hard blunt weapon. 

It is a case of murder as the body bears injury marks and was dumped near the big drain, as per a plan. We are probing the case from all angles,h he said.

DSP ( law and order ) Vivekanand said the victim was working in meteorological (Met) office as a generator maintenance mechanic. The police have also recovered the motorcycle of the victim from near the site of occurrence and a cell phone, he added.

We are trying to get all details about Kumar from his family members, including his wife,h he said.

The family of the victim was shell shocked to hear the news.

The deceasedfs father said his son had no enmity with anyone and he was an upcoming player having played several tournaments in past few years.

Just three days back, he had returned from Ara after playing a match. We do not know why he was killed,h he said.

It is learnt that Kumar had left his office at around 5.30 pm, but did not reach home till late night. When his wife tried to contact him, she found the victimfs cell phone switched off, sources said.
