The income tax department on Tuesday carried out survey operations on the clinics of three leading doctors in the state capital and claimed to have detected wealth not accounted for by them.

The doctors, who fell into the I-T net were neurosurgeon Dr Anuj Kumar Singh, one of the directors of Sanjeevan Centre for neurosurgery, SK Puri, pediatrician Dr Shrawan Kumar, who runs New Born Care Centre, Rajendra Nagar, and gastroenterologist Dr Manoj Kumar, who has a clinic off Boring Road.

Meanwhile, the I-T sleuths raided a jewellery shop, Mahavir Aabhushan Bhandar, for tax evasion at Bakerganj on Tuesday evening.

When contacted, commissioner of income tax (CIT)-I SD Jha confirmed the operation on the three medical establishments.

He, however, refused to divulge the details, saying the survey was still on. Sources, however, said that the I-T authorities detected “an enormous suppression of receipts which resulted in under assessment of income”.

The documents, seized in course of the operation, revealed that the huge money amassed by them was invested in moveable and immoveable property, the sources added.

It is believed that such operations will continue unabated to detect black money.
