Yet another horrific case of honour killing was reported in village Sandaur in the Malerkotla subdivision, 30 km from Sangrur, when parents of a 21-year-old girl were arrested for allegedly killing their daughter on January 10.

Though the police have already arrested the parents of the girl, identified as Gurdeep Kaur, a 10+2 dropout from school, along with her uncles, soon after the incident on the charges of murder and destruction of evidences against six persons; but the theory of honour killing came out during a detailed investigation.

Earlier, the parents had concocted the story that they had killed their daughter as she lost her mental balance after she failed in her exams a few years ago.

Investigation Officer Harinder Singh said during the detailed interrogation and investigation, it came to light that the girl had an affair with a boy of her village Sandaur for about a year.

He said all the accused had confdessed to their crime.

The police said the girl had wanted to marry the boy of her choice against the wishes of her parents and relatives.

"The parents of girl failed to accept the relation of her daughter and did not want to marry her with the boy. The parents even restricted her from going to school after they got to know about the affair," police said.

The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidences) of the IPC Act.
