A tornado ripped through parts of Tripura killing one person, injuring 200 others and damaging at least 1000 houses, officials said on Tuesday.
The impact of the tornado was maximum in Bishalgarh subdivision area of Sipahijala district where more than 1,000 houses collapsed and at least 200 people were injured when the tornado swept through the area on Monday, they said.
The tornado lasted for about 10 minutes, but left a trail of destruction.
The injured were admitted to Bishalgarh hospital and Agartala Government Medical College in Agartala.
A 60-year-old cultivator was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire uprooted by the storm at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, about 195 km from Agartala.
The government has opened three relief camps in Bishalgarh sub-division and security forces and civil defence volunteers were engaged in rescue works.
