Land sharks in Gautam Budh Nagar district have usurped hundreds of acres of land on the Yamuna riverbed and are selling them to ‘unsuspecting’ buyers at high prices.

About a dozen developers are selling farmhouse plots in Noida’s sectors 151, 158, 152, 153 and 167 among others.

Most of these plots fall under the flood zone, where any kind of construction activity is banned.

The selling of plots on Yamuna floodplains is also being carried out in Greater Noida villages allegedly under the nose of local authorities.

These developers have put up hoardings on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the main roads promoting their projects.

‘Get a farmhouse at the cost of an apartment’ is the catchy slogan of the realtors, who are selling 500 square metre of plot for Rs.45 lakh.

To lure innocent buyers, they have constructed roads and drains on their own.

Some developers also organise events at these farmlands and strike deals.

“We sell a farmhouse plot for anything between Rs.50 lakh to Rs.2 crore, depending on size. We have already constructed the roads. We have made many luxurious farmhouse deals for high-end customers,” claimed a sales executive at his stall on the Noida expressway.

The administration says it will take action against the encroachment of floodplains.
