Heavy police force was deployed at Muthiyana village in Greater Noida on Saturday afternoon after a clash broke out between three constables and villagers.
The residents got annoyed with the constables after the latter allegedly abused and beat up a couple in the village. Additional police force and PAC jawans were sent to the village to maintain the law and order.
The three policemen have been identified as Dharmender, Neeraj and Mukesh. All of them are constables at the Jarcha police station.
The police got a tip-off that Dinesh Kumar, a villager, had allegedly purchased a stolen motorbike. The police went to Kumar's home on January 31, but he was not available. One of the constables asked his wife Bina to send him to them.
"Dinesh Kumar reached the police station on the same motorbike that day itself. The police officials asked him to leave the bike at the police station and bring its documents from his home," said a senior police official, adding that Kumar did not turn up to the police station.
On Saturday morning, the three constables reached his residence allegedly in inebriated condition and misbehaved with Bina. Then they allegedly brutally thrashed Kumar and his wife when the couple opposed the policemen.
Enraged over the police atrocity, the locals came out and beat up the three policemen.
The couple was admitted in a hospital where their condition is said to be critical. One of the constables also sustained severe head injuries, the police said.
