It is now the turn of those coming to Delhi from Noida to face massive traffic jams due to the closure of one carriageway on the Kalindi Kunj bridge from Wednesday.

Noida traffic police have assured that additional 25 traffic police officers will be deployed near the bridge to manage traffic.

The Delhi-Noida stretch of the bridge was closed from December 23 till January 22 for repair with only one carriageway open for traffic coming from Noida. Now work on the other carriageway has begun and it will remain shut from January 23 to February 24. The other carriageway will be open.

"Anticipating traffic jams, we have started installing sign boards indicating diversions and giving the alternative route. We have blocked three roads leading to Kalindi Kunj bridge and have also closed three cuts from City Center flyover to Noida gate so that traffic moves smoothly," said Dharmendra Yadav, a traffic inspector.

In case the traffic volume goes beyond control, Noida traffic police said they will block traffic coming from Greater Noida towards Noida near Mahamaya flyover and divert it towards Sector 37.

Heavy traffic jam is expected near Mahamaya flyover, Sahadra drain, Film City, Sector 15 A, sector 14 A, sector 37 and Noida gate in the coming days.

Crackdown on boats
After HT reported that around 300 motorcycle-borne commuters have found an innovative yet dangerous way of beating the massive traffic jams on way to Noida from Delhi, Delhi police have stopped boatmen from ferrying bikes.

Motorcycles were being ferried on a boat in the wake of the closure of one carriageway of the Kalindi Kunj bridge.
