The Punjab National Bank has opened its fourth branch in Britain with the opening of its Soho Road branch in Birmingham this week.
The bank, which currently has its branches in Southall, Leicester and London, is scheduled to be open more branches this year in Wolverhampton, Manchester
The new Birmingham branch was inaugurated by Councillor Mike Whitby, Leader of the Birmingham City Council in an opening timed to coincide with the festival of Vaisakhi.
K C Chakrabarty, chairman and managing director of the bank, said at the opening: "The UK market represents an excellent opportunity for the PNB and Birmingham being the second largest city of UK, with its large Asian population, made it an ideal location for the opening of our branch.
The opening of the new branch demonstrated that the bank was largely unaffected amid the current economic crisis, he added.
"PNB demonstrates that business is as usual and the group is quite strong in managing this financial turmoil," he said and stressed that ample liquidity was available to lend to individuals and business around UK.
