circuit profile

Buddh Circuit
The teams and drivers approved the 5.141km Buddh International Race Circuit after it hosted the inaugural Indian Grand Prix in 2011, located just south of India's capital city New Delhi. The organisers and track designer Hermann Tilke have been diligent in their approach to the layout, even running ideas pass the teams to ensure the best possible outcome. More than four million cubic tonnes of soil have been moved to create undulations; the track rises 14 metres between Turns 1 and 3 alone, so the drivers are set for a rollercoaster ride. The track has been designed as one of the fastest, most exciting circuits in the world, is well suited to the requirements of powerful, high-spec racing cars and motorcycles, and will host some of the most challenging motorsports events in the world. The track's combination of 16 corners, high-speed straights and elevation changes has been designed to provide ample opportunities for overtaking, which is what makes motor racing exciting. At the same time, in terms of adherence to safety norms and regulations, run-off areas, medical facilities, facilities for the media and overall infrastructure, Buddh International Circuit will among the best in the world.

The first of the new circuits on F1's ever expanding global reach to be constructed and promoted without any government help. Expected to be a fairly fast circuit with the right elements to provide entertaining racing.

The 'bonkers' business logic of Formula 1 teams

The primary goals of any normal business are to be successful in its field; to add value to the company; and to make a profit. Other strategic goals include building a brand, becoming the market leader or expanding the business into new areas. Joe Saward writes.

If all goes to plan, this will be a big week for Formula 1 as it returns to the United States for the first time in five years. F1 has failed to break into the US market in the course of the last 30 years, having blown the foundations that were built at Watkins Glen and Long Beach in the 1970s.
