Course marshals chase away a stray dog on the track before the first practice session starts ahead of the Indian Formula One Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. (Reuters)
Much is being made of the puppy that ran out on the Buddh International Circuit during the first practice session of the Indian Grand Prix. The danger to the canine and drivers was thankfully averted unlike at the 2008 round of the GP2 Asia Series race in Istanbul where current F1 driver, Bruno
Senna, hit a stray dog at high speed, killing the dog. HRT driver Narain Karthikeyan also recalls the sight of hares running across circuits in England when he raced in Formula 3. Former F1 driver, Christiano DaMatta, had to be hospitalised after he hit a deer at the Road America circuit in the United States in 2006 during a test session.

Wildlife aside, F1 has had its fair share of humans disturbing proceedings too. Most famously at the 2000 German Grand Prix and the 2003 British Grand Prix.

If all goes to plan, this will be a big week for Formula 1 as it returns to the United States for the first time in five years. F1 has failed to break into the US market in the course of the last 30 years, having blown the foundations that were built at Watkins Glen and Long Beach in the 1970s.
